The Pros and Cons of Each Wedding Season
Spring Wedding Season Pros & Cons
Pros
Beautiful green hillsides, blooming trees & flowers create the most beautiful backdrop for weddings if you are having an outdoor wedding or plan to be outdoors for photos
Overall milder temperatures in the 50's & 60's, allowing for transitioning between indoor and outdoor weddings without worrying about extreme heat or extreme cold. You're able to enjoy mingling outdoors without sweating profusely or needing a coat, which is so nice.
Better overall pricing is a big pro - some venues offer discounts for Spring weddings, including ours. You can also typically find better deals on honeymoon locations before the touristy season begins where not only the pricing is better, resorts are less crowded.
Symbolism - Spring symbolizes new beginnings, growth, and renewal, making it a fitting metaphor for your journey as a married couple.
Cons
Unpredictable weather, including rain. No matter what the season, always have a backup plan.
Bad weather can bring other problems too, like a muddy mess, depending on how your venue is set up. Ask them how they protect against these things during a wedding if it's a concern.
Allergies may be a concern in the Spring when trees are pollinating.
Summer Weddings Pros & Cons
Pros
Longer days with plenty of daylight means more flexibility in wedding day timeline
Wide variety of outdoor venue options, as many venues are closed for the winter and even Spring season.
Vibrant colors and that summer atmosphere you can't get any other time of the year. Summertime is perfect for all the outdoor activities. Lawn games, cocktails, bonfires, or even fireworks displays to entertain guests and create a fun and relaxed atmosphere. We love seeing our guests combine indoor/outdoor weddings at our venue.
Cons
While we all enjoy warm weather, it can turn hot pretty fast in the summertime, leaving everyone sweaty and uncomfortable. Having a venue with ac option is important for this reason!
Limited availability - this goes for vendors and guests, as summertime means more potential for conflicts with vacations and busy schedules.
Bugs, in general, are more present in the summertime. This can definitely present some annoyances and challenges with allergies.
Fall Weddings - Pros & Cons
Pros
Stunning autumn foliage and rolling hill create the perfect picturesque backdrops
Cooler autumn temperatures that are generally more comfortable and great for both indoor and outdoor celebrations, allowing guests to mingle without breaking a sweat or bundling up excessively.
Seasonal flavors & unique seasonal décor, like pumpkin and apple, for catering. It's fun to incorporate pumpkins, gourds, pine cones, and branches into your décor, creating a warm and rustic atmosphere that's also reusable after the wedding.
Cons
Weather can be unpredictable in the Fall, and so can the good weekends for good colors. Be prepared with backup plans for outdoor ceremonies and receptions, like tents or indoor spaces
Higher competition for venues due to popularity, which generally leads to higher pricing as well.
Shorter days as the season progresses. Plan for earlier ceremonies the later in the year it gets.
Winter Weddings - Pros & Cons
Pros
Magical atmosphere with potential for snow and holiday decorations.
Lower venue and vendor costs due to winter being an off-peak season. This means fantastic deals on venues, vendors, and even travel for your guests. When you can get your dream venue at a discounted rate, that frees up resources for other aspects of your celebration.
Cozy indoor settings for intimate celebrations.
Fewer Scheduling Conflicts -- Guests may be more likely to clear their calendars for your winter wedding. You'll also have better chances of securing the exact vendors and dates you desire without a ton of competition from other couples.
Overall, it's less stressful to plan a winter wedding --- While the weather can be unpredictable, winter weddings generally require less outdoor planning, minimizing last-minute worries and changes to the plan.
Cons
Cold weather and limited daylight hours can limit outdoor options.
Travel challenges for guests due to winter conditions and unpredictable winter storms.
Limited availability -- certain seasonal flowers and decor is unavailable in the winter, and some venues are completely closed in the winter as well.
